Cannot figure out how to schedule an OS X Restart when VB Running

Post by jwjon1 »

Complete programming idiot here!

I am running VB 5.1.28 on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. The virtual machine starts on boot, and remains on (at least, it remains on as long as there are no errors resulting in an aborted client).

I have tried to schedule a nightly restart of the OS X host, but the shutdown gets hung as Virtual Box prompts for a state selection ("save the machine state", "send the shutdown signal", "power off the machine") before powering down. Consequently, because there is no user to select the shutdown state for Virtual Box, the OS X shutdown sequence hangs until such time as I can manually select a choice.

Is there a way to force Virtual Box to automatically select the shutdown state such that user intervention is not required--thereby bypassing the 3 selection prompt and allowing scheduled OS X restarts to proceed unimpeded by Virtual Box shut down?

Hopefully this makes sense. I tried searching the forums, but did not have any luck.

Cheers! And thanks!
