hostonly does not work ?

Post by scheffer »

Hello,
I am new to virtualbox on MAC (I know it on Windows) and have a strange issue on my MacBook Pro (10.12.6) with VB 5.1.26.
I am not able
Have created in the GUI a new host-only adapter (vboxnet0) with 192.168.40.1.

When I ping on my MAC vboxnet0 I do not get an answer - I get a request timeout.

ifconfig vboxnet0:
vboxnet0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
ether 0a:00:27:00:00:00
inet 192.168.40.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.40.255

Is this normal ? On my Windows PC I do get an answer.

You tell me. Do MACs responds to ICMP IP address sniffing attacks by default?

Not on Win7 or later you don't, at least not by default.
