Help! Stuck on boot screen!

Post by Confused Nerd »

Can't really explain, but whoever has seen this post please come back in 24 hours and help solve my problem, as I will make a new post with URLs to images providing information about my error. But a quick explanatory is that it has been stuck at the boot screen (window logo) and has been stuck for 25mins.
Thanks!

There is no need to wait 24hours. You can attach images locally right now. The only thing you can't do is post offsite links - which we would prefer you didn't do anyway.

Beyond that, screenshots are often unnecessary. What is necessary is a VM log. With the VM fully shut down, right click and "Show Log" in the GUI, save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip, and attach the zip here.

  1. You should upgrade to the latest VirtualBox, 5.1.20 as of this writing.
    VirtualBox VM 5.0.2 r102096 darwin.amd64 (Aug 13 2015 18:38:03) release log
  2. You are assigning 5601 MB of RAM to your guest, memory that you do not have available. Either close some applications on the host, buy more RAM for the host, or reduce the amount of RAM assigned to the guest.
    00:00:18.909165 Host RAM: 8192MB total, 3597MB available
    00:00:18.959060 RamSize <integer> = 0x000000015e100000 (5 873 074 176, 5 GB)
  3. You have 4 physical CPUs on your host, you could assign 2 of them to your guest.
    00:00:18.959056 NumCPUs <integer> = 0x0000000000000001 (1)
00:00:19.314113 CPUM: Logical host processors: 4 present, 4 max, 4 online, online mask: 000000000000000f
00:00:19.314117 CPUM: Physical host cores: 4
PS. I removed your screenshot with your Mac details. Just the description is more than enough. Trying to be more "green" and save a (virtual) tree or two. ;)

00:00:03.906607 Host RAM: 4096MB (4.0GB) total, 1153MB available
00:00:04.290718 RamSize <integer> = 0x00000000d6900000 (3 599 761 408, 3 433 MB, 3 GB)
It really doesn't feel good if I give some advice (memory, CPU, HD requirements) and immediately another use comes along and hasn't even checked those requirements. Honestly...

Sorry, but virtual box doesn't allow allocate more memory. Only 80% of my total memory.

You misunderstand. You cannot allocate memory you do not have, so the advice is to allocate less to the guest, or free up RAM on the host, or add more RAM to the host.

In your case the profile looks wrong (you are not using a WindowsNT_64bit guest), plus you can't afford to allocate more than 1GB RAM to the VM: and even that is provided you manage to free up some.

I have the same situation, It starts booting and then there is no activity or error message, attached logs from the VM.
