OS-X 10.12.3 Windows 8.1 guest freeze

Post by Mr Decal »

I have 3 of the latest Mac-mini's running the 2.6Ghz Core i5 processor with the latest version of OS-X Sierra 10.12.3. I have a standard Windows 8.1 VM that I have used on other Mac-mini's without issue. Those Mini's are not running the latest version of OS-X. Some are on Sierra that has not had the latest update applied and some are on El Captain.
On these mini's I have installed Virtualbox 5.1.4. The issue is the Guest OS freezes randomly or applications will freeze on the guest. Based on a post about Mini's with Core Two dual processors I have uninstalled Virtualbox and loaded 5.0.20 but that has not corrected the issue. Has anyone else had a problem with Sierra 10.12.3? Any suggestion for VirtualBox settings that might help?

Currently the network in VBox is configured for NAT. I've allocated 4GB of RAM and 2 Processors. I've had virtualization set for default and legacy but neither has helped with the issue.

Pick one host where the guest VM freezes. When that happens and you close the VM (not save, not paused), right-click on the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log". Save the first "VBox.log" only, ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).

You do not have the same problem. You have Windows 10. Nobody is going to find your Windows 10 problem in a thread with title "OS-X 10.12.3 Windows 8.1 guest freeze". This is for future reference; open a new thread for your problems, unless you are absolutely sure it's the same problem.
00:00:01.839380 Host RAM: 4096MB (4.0GB) total, 1582MB available
00:00:02.026804 RamSize <integer> = 0x000000007d000000 (2 097 152 000, 2 000 MB)
You are assigning memory to your guest, that you do not have available. Either close some applications on the host, buy more RAM for the host, or reduce the amount of RAM assigned to the guest.
00:00:02.899110 GUI: 2D video acceleration is disabled
And so is 3D as well. Enable them in the VM Settings » Display, while the VM is completely shut down.
00:00:09.770314 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 5.1.14 r112924 '5.1.14'
You need to update the Guest Additions.

Bottom line: with 4096 MB of RAM in your host, even if you give half of that to the VM, you are still in the minimum requirements for Windows 10.
