W2K: Sound output not working with OSX 10.5.4

It used to work well with OSX 10.5.3, but the 10.5.4 update apparently killed it. Initially, I got something that sounded like the samplerate was way, way too low, I then tried uninstalling the sound adapter in W2K, reinstalling -- no luck. I then tried switching adapter type in VirtualBox a couple times -- this made the sound disappear completely.

I've installed (and re-installed, twice) the guest additions, but to no avail.

Anybody have and ideas?

I'm using Core Audio ICH AC97 and it works. You have to deinstall any other sounddriver in w2k, e.g. the soundblasterdriver, install the guestadditions and then it should work. May be you will have to let windows search for new hardware.
