I don't have two physical monitors but it would be very nice if the dual monitor can work with Mac OS Spaces. I googled around and cannot find anything relevant. I tried setting VirtualBox Manager Setting->Display->Monitor count =2, but the guess ubuntu is not able to recognize it (all dual monitor setting under System Setting->Display are grey and disabled). Does anyone have success setting up dual monitor to play nicely with Mac OS Spaces? Thank you.

I did. Right after I read your question
Host: 10.9.5
Guest: Ubuntu 12.04
VirtuaBlox: 5.1.3 test build 110033.
I went to the VM settings, enabled 2 monitors. Started the VM. There were two monitors detected by Ubuntu from the beginning. It started with 2 monitors at 800x600, but maybe because I just updated the Guest Additions at the same time(?).
The next trick is what gets you the two monitors in two spaces, even if you have one monitor. Once your VM starts, on space A, pick one monitor (let's say #1) and click on the Full Screen Widget on the right-side of the title bar. That will take #1 to its own space (B). Switch to space A where monitor #2 still is. Again click on the Full Screen Widget to take monitor #2 to its own space (C). Then it's up to you to setup the keyboard shortcuts and the mouse gestures.
And here's a recent thread with two monitors, if you're into that kind of thing: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=78259

Re: Dual monitors on ubuntu guest
Thanks for the reply. I finally find the knob to turn on the double screen. After enabling double screen in the setting -> display, I also need to start the guess os, in the control panel at the bottom, right click the monitor icon, virtual screen 2 -> enable.
Re: Dual monitors on ubuntu guest
I still cannot get the OS spaces work with the VB two windows(screen) though. I can move these two screens to two spaces before maximizing the windows. But once I maximize one window(full screen), the another window is pulled back to the same space and become completely invisible(probably sit underneath the other window which occupies the full screen). Let me know if anyone can get it to work. Thanks.

I have no problems setting up two VBox VMs as separate Full-Screen applications.sgu wrote:I still cannot get the OS spaces work with the VB two windows(screen) though.
