how to run osx 10.6.8 in virtual box on el capitan

Hi All, had a quick look and there is no answer to this that I can find.
I am working in the printing industry
I am running Mac OS 10.6.8 on my imac (intel processor 3 gh with 12 gig of memory and 1 TB hard drive) and I need to upgrade to 10.11.5 because of the new Windows system installed with in the company

My problem is this. I have a number of programs (legally owned) with dongles that will not run on 10.11.5 and are extremely expensive to upgrade.
So as a work around I am wondering if it is possible to run a Mac virtual machine running 10.6.8 on/in an Mac running 10.11.5

Any help would be great

I'm not sure how much of a problem you may run into with the dongles.
