Hi there,

I am getting the follwing error after upgrading my OS from snow leapord to EI Capitan and upgrading VirtualBox to 5.0 , can any one help. thnx

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine win7.

Failed to load unit 'cpum' (VERR_SSM_FIELD_OUT_OF_BOUNDS).

You will need to discard the saved stated associated with all VMs. The principle of a saved state is that it isn't necessary to do a fully boot to discover all of the information discovered in a previous full boot. Changing the host OS violated that principle, as would a number of other radical changes.

Upgrading the host OS doesn't really do anything bad to a saved state, but upgrading VirtualBox may. There is saved state backwards compatibility, but it doesn't extend infinitely far back. I'm guessing that this was an upgrade from some relatively old VirtualBox version, especially since Snow Leopard (as great as it was) hasn't been supported in a while.

Discarding the saved state is the most practical solution.
