Kernel Panic Under v5.0.14

Post by dsexton »

Past week I have been getting a kernel panic every time my computer sleeps. I have uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled.

VirtualBox Version 5.0.14 r105127

You don't mention your OSX version, but I do believe it's 10.11.4 public beta 2, right? You seem to be the second person to mention a kernel panic in org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv if running VBoxHeadless in that OSX version[*]. Have you tried to start your VM normally, i.e. not with VBoxHeadless? If so, what happens? Unfortunately, the other reporter never honored us with an answer... You don't seem to be running anything else out of the ordinary, except LittleSnitch, something that is quite popular and not that error prone to kernel panics, AFAIK.

[*] Another person reported that they had no problems, but his report was close to useless, because he was running normal guests, i.e. launched normal from the VirtualBox Manager.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Yes, sorry I thought the build number in the crash report would suffice as far as version.
socratis wrote:Have you tried to start your VM normally, i.e. not with VBoxHeadless?
Yes, I just tried starting the VM normal, sleeping my mac, and then waking it back up. Still crashes. Unfortunately this is causing my mac to crash several times a day (every time my machine sleeps.)

I'm willing to help debug this issue further.

Obvious question... is this reproducible on a released OS X version? If not, have you notified Apple?

I can reproduce this problem very easily. This is 10.11.4 public beta 2 (Build#15E33e)

I believe the question was "on a released OS version". Not a beta.

The point of a beta is to find bugs. You should report them to Apple.

This was working fine until Beta1. So, the answer is...No. I started seeing KP after installing beta2.

I've been sending reports to Apple. This is just a heads up incase apple points fingers at VirtualBox.

Should we make an issue on trac to track this?

Have you opened a ticket with Apple, or have you been just sending the automated reports? If you have an open ticket, can you post the open radar?

No. An OS X beta is not a supported host OS. But there is an appropriate place: viewforum.php?f=39
