All interesting stuff but it remains a bit mysterious for me!

I have never been able to read/write a USB key but a USB mouse does work!

I was tempted to have you create a new post about not being able to use USB keys in a guest. It can certainly be done.

On second thought, create a new post on how to do so. It may help others seeing they are unlikely to look for a solution under "LOSS OF KEYBOARD & TRACKPAD".

I lost my keyboard and mouse (Apple Gesture Mouse) as descried in the beginning of this thread.
Hope this is resolved soon. I had to go back to 5.0.12.

This was resolved previously by having users correct their erroneous actions.
a) What makes you think that this is a 5.0.14 problem which is fixed by downgrading to 5.0.12?
b) Would you mind sharing some more information? Read the thread from the beginning for more information.

Correcting myself here. I just discovered that this assessment might actually hold some truth. See: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=76021

FWIW, running OSX 10.11.3 and VB 5.0.15r105205 I have no loss of Bluetooth devices running a Windows 10 (build 14251) guest.

FWIW II, running OSX 10.11.4b2 and VB 5.0.14r105127 I have no loss of Bluetooth devices running a Windows 10 (build 10240) guest.

edit: Booting from scratch.

Could people affected please clarify whether they are booting the VM from scratch, or are resuming from a saved state.

Socratis, sorry about the late response. Here are my answers:

a) I didn't think it would be a problem, I did it and it worked for me. Experience tells me that downgrading is not necessarily a bad thing. Especially I now run El Capitan, but so want to go back to Yosemite without having to reinstall everything.
b) iMac late 2009, 8GB memory, bluetooth KB and mouse (gesture mouse), running Virtual Box since the beginning of time, Guest OSs Linux (several distros), Windows XP, 7, 8, 10. Also additionally I run embedded OSs for testing stuff -- like Android custom build, VxWorks, Inferno, etc.

Hope this answers your questions and adds to the pool of information developers need for diagnosing and fixing this fluke.

For me it also turned out having an unspecified USB device filter that I had to delete to make 5.0.14 work. In this regard Win7 also told me after a failed booting sequence that to a not closer specified USB Driver could not be installed.

The information above shows the working configuration after deleting the unspecified device filter.

Good luck with this solution everyone!

It is a USB filter with blank values, which means it will capture everything, including your keyboard and mouse. And yes, Bluetooth devices go through a USB interface.
Thank you Socratis, I haven't been able to pinpoint a setting that I changed manually after the latest VB updtade, didn't need to get a log, just by looking at the other and your explanations were more than enough!

I have tried all the versions since 5.12 and so far none of them works for me. My Apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard are lost in that order one after the other with a 2 second difference in time.

Please, anybody having any explanation? I have not changed any of the setting on my virtual machines. I have Windows XP, 7 and 10, Mint Linux and a couple of embedded systems. None of them is usable. Any of them started would cause both UI devices to be lost.

I have to login remotely through a terminal and kill all VirtualBox processes in order to free my interface to be able to work with my iMac again.

FYI: iMac from around October 2009 with 8GB memory and as mentioned bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Thanks a bunch!
E.T.

This is your 3rd post, but so far you've only stated the problem, you have not provided any diagnostics. So, for our Information and for future users's information, post the output of the commands:
  • VBoxManage showvminfo "<Your_VM_Name>"
    kextstat | grep -v com.apple
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

I am having the same problem. I just installed Sierra on my Mac and as soon as virtualbox loads, I loose connection from my trackpad and keyboard. The keyboard is connected by usb, the trackpad us bluetooth. I have no use of either with virtualbox running. Someone please help. I'm really not familier with the terms used in this thread. If someone can walk me through this like I am an idiot, I will be a HUGE help. Thank you for anyone who can help me. I should ad, once I had this problem, I updated to the most recent version of virtualbox.
