LOSS OF KEYBOARD & TRACKPAD

Post by Turbie47 »

Just loaded Version 5.0.14 r105127.
Running VM on El Capitan.
Upon loading the new version of VM, the bluetooth keyboard and trackpads are immediately disconnected and I loose all controls of the computer.
Only way to get out of this is to switch off the machine.

Obviously I need help!

Thanks

Are those USB devices? If so then make sure you aren't grabbing ownership off the host (don't use blank filters in VM settings | USB, if you care about what devices are grabbed).

No they are the standard wireless bluetooth keyboard and trackpad supplied by Apple with an iMac.
Since I have managed to gear up an usb mouse which works with the new VM version.
But I have no keyboard.
When I quit Virtual Machine, both the keyboard and trackpad reconnect.
This never happened with previous versions.

Thanks,
Francis

I'll dig out my wireless stuff and check. I'll post what I find.

Again, I'll repeat what mpack asked; do you have any USB filters enabled? Actually, open up a Terminal and post the output of:
   VBoxManage showvminfo "Your_VM_Name_here"
Post the answer and put it inside the

Code: Select all

 tags.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

No idea what happened to you but my wireless devices all work. It didn't seem like a VirtualBox issue anyway but thought I would check.
Running OSX 10.11.3 | VB 5.0.14

I don't like wireless devices btw. Which is why mine were put away. :P

Delete the filter "Name: Nouveau filtre 1".
It is a USB filter with blank values, which means it will capture everything, including your keyboard and mouse. And yes, Bluetooth devices go through a USB interface.

Apologies for not reverting earlier but I was away from my iMac for a few days!

Many thanks Socratis, your suggestion did the trick and I am now back on line.

All the best

Actually, it was mpack on his first reply to your post:

Glad it worked one way or another...

A bit of added explanation. VirtualBox on OS X normally refuses to capture USB input devices. But... the Bluetooth USB controller is not an input device and can be captured.

It's a situation where what the user is doing might be perfectly legitimate; some users want to give all USB devices (including keyboards/mice) to a VM. Others don't.
