For those of you who are interested, the loss of keyboard, trackpad and mouse control is something which we have also been discussing in the "Unsupported Machines" thread on MacRumors. It is a very long thread currently consisting of 126 pages, which deals with a wide variety of Sierra installation and post-installation issues and problems on unsupported Macs. Here is the URL:

http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac ... d.1977128/

What surprises me is that no one here -- at least not in this thread -- has mentioned the fact that the iSight camera is also broken due to this problem with VirtualBox. Both FaceTime and Photo Booth say that there is no camera available. Furthermore, under System Support/Hardware/Camera, no camera is listed.

When I installed Sierra 10.12.0, the camera broke. The minute I uninstalled VirtualBox, camera operation was restored.

When I upgraded to 10.12.1, I also lost control of my bluetooth keyboard, Magic Mouse and USB wired mouse, so that I had no way to log in.

At any rate, I downgraded back to El Capitan.

Delete or deactivat the filters:
  1. Apple Inc. Bluetooth USB Host Controller [0208]: this is what's capturing your keyboard and mouse most probably.
  2. Apple Internal Memory Card Reader [9833]: you can't use it, it's going to be always captured by the system.
  3. Apple Inc. FaceTime HD Camera (Built-in) [0755]: you can't use a camera with a USB filter. There is a special menu for that. Look under "Devices", "Webcams".

It's not a conflict. You are instructing VirtualBox to capture EVERYTHING that is connected to Bluetooth (including your keyboard and mouse). VirtualBox captures them. No conflict.

I'm sorry for posting another reply long after the thread ended, but I need to ask this question:

What is the actual terminal command for deleting the USB filter? I can't find this anywhere online and this keeps happening to me every time I try to use a VirtualMachine. I know this is probably so simple but I just need a piece of text that I can copy and paste into terminal after changing the filter name

Thank you all

Disclaimer, I haven't used it personally, but I believe it is:
  • VBoxManage usbfilter remove <index,0-N> --target <uuid|vmname>global
That information is based on the User Manual, Ch. 8.31 VBoxManage usbfilter add/modify/remove. Please read that for more details.
