I have windows 10 installed as guest on MAC Osx El capitan. Virtual Box 5.0.
I have an external hd connected directly to my router and it's visible only on the Mac Host.
I would like to have a Filezilla server on the Windows guest that would point to the external hd, but it's not showing.

I don't see how using VirtualBox can influence this issue, it's a purely software/guestOS feature - a network shared folder. Provided your VM is configured to access the network which the router is on, then the shared folder will be visible in your network neighborhood. This is assuming that your router is configured to be compatible with Windows networking (beyond acting as a router).
