Quit closes virtual machine, not whole program

Post by blanka »

Apple-Q does not shut down the whole Virtual Box program, but only the current running virtual machine. It feels a little bit 'non-standard'. I rather see Apple-Q quit Virtual Box itself, and have Apple-W to terminate a specific Virtual Machine, as you could see it as an open document. Now it seems there is nog key for quitting Virtual Box.

I agree that from a user perspective this is non-standard, and rather odd behaviour for Mac OS X. But from a technical perspective, each VM is actually a separate independent application, with the VirtualBox management application as another separate application again. So technically command-Q IS actually quitting an entire application.

Wouldn't it be nice to put the shell in the dock as seperate item then? Somewhat like Parallels does it?
