5.0 FullScreen no longer allows hide virtualbox vm
5.0 FullScreen no longer allows hide virtualbox vm
I used to run a vm in fullscreen mode and use Command-H to hide the vm. Installed 5.0.0 r101573. Now the menu item for Hide Virtualbox VM is greyed when in fullscreen. Suggestions, please?
Re: 5.0 FullScreen no longer allows hide virtualbox vm
5.0 uses the "real" fullscreen now, my guess would be that it's just not possible to hide it as it's on its own Desktop Space.

Please explain what is the "real" fullscreen.

I'm not going to totally disagree since I don't think I ever tried to hide a full screen guest, however, Cmd+H is a Mac shortcut and if the guest was full screen and in focus it should never have worked.

Not sure about a Mac but you can look in the preference -> input and see what it is. Linux hosts default is "Host+M" to minimize. Maybe it changed and you just need to reset it or define a different hot-key.

There is no shortcut assigned to Minimize in the OSX version and as JAA mentioned "Hide VirtualBox VM" is disabled in the menu.

Re: 5.0 FullScreen no longer allows hide virtualbox vm
I've Reinstalled 4.3.30, the extension pack and guest additions. Went smoothly. All is running as before.
My Win 7 system auto boots when OS X boots, it runs fullscreen (I have no idea whether it is "real" or not), and Command-H works perfectly.
Thanks for your replies.

It shouldn't.

Re: 5.0 FullScreen no longer allows hide virtualbox vm
Interesting. In both VB 4.3.28 and 4.3.30 the Cmd+H key is assigned to ACPI Shutdown in the input section of VB which is Cmd+U in the Machine menu. However, what it actually does on OSX hosts is move the guest to a new Space. It doesn't actually hide it as in Minimize. It just moves it to "Desktop" you can't see. In any case, Cmd+H doesn't do what it's supposed to in VB or OSX.
Edit: In VB 5.0 the same keys are assigned but only Cmd+U works for ACPI Shutdown.

Yes. I assigned another (actually no key) to ACPI Shutdown, and switched Host Key to Right Command years ago.
The technicalities make no difference to me. I use all the screen real estate for Win 7 (looks as if it is running natively), and can quickly get to OS X (in fullscreen) with Command-H. I routinely use both and often go back and forth.
I am complete here. Thank you all again.

Found a solution: a full screen window on Mac (Mavericks and beyond) is a Space. You can navigate spaces by swiping left or right with three fingers on the trackpad (not sure how you would do it with a mouse or keyboard shortcuts). You can find out more about spaces with the Help in Finder on Mac.
