If you want to create a screenshot the key combination is Host+E or you can choose "Take Screenshot" from the VirtualBox menu.

In Bootcamp it would be…
Capture the Entire Screen: Function + Shift + F11
Capture Only the Active Window: Function + Shift + Option + F11
Not sure if it works in an XP VirtualBox guest.

There was a free application called Apple Keyboard Helper for Windows that remaps the Apple keyboard to the Windows configuration. If you can find it to install in your Windows guest that should help.

as a guess? the OP listed the wrong keyboard shortcuts. I'm not a Windows person so I would have missed that.

From memory: PrtScr - takes a screenshot, Alt+PrtScr takes a shot of the current app window only. Ctl+Alt+PrtStr doesn't do anything.

p.s. No help to the OP, but on Vista and later, check out the "Snipping Tool" - it's much better for grabbing diagnostic screenshots.

apparently adding the Ctl key to each copies the screenshot to the clipboard.

Nope. It does that anyway. Where else would screenshots go?

You mean to a file on the desktop? Windows doesn't have that feature. On XP you have to paste from the clipboard into a Paint package, and then save to a file from the Paint package.
