Mouse problems with 4.3.28 upgrade

Post by bediddleby »

My main use for Virtualbox is running Windows 8 to use Visio 2013. A very common function in Visio is zoom, and it can be quickly done by holding down Ctrl-Shift and dragging the mouse around the area that you want to zoom to. After the 4.3.28 upgrade, this stopped working and instead it zooms in slightly and then pans around as the mouse is dragged. The only way I've found to get it working again is to disable mouse integration, which makes the mouse behave erratically in Windows, and is very inconvenient when working in and out of Windows, back to my Mac. If this isn't something I can fix now, I will investigate downgrading for the time being. I hope this is temporary; it's bad enough to be almost unusable this way.

We apparently are dealing with the same issue

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=67858

I found similar issues in the Adobe products now. It also seems to get a mouse flicker at certain times that we didn't have before.

I may consider downgrading too because we can't work in our environment with these issues.

I still love VB though!

I might mention that while downgrading will evade the issue it will not fix it and if you really want it fixed you need to provide diagnostic information. The guests log file ( as an attachment ) would be the first place to start.

This applies to both issues. Could you please check whether just downgrading the Guest Additions to 4.3.26 without installing VirtualBox 4.3.26 on the host fixes the issue? If not, could you please try these two test builds and report whether both of them also show the problem? You are both using OS X hosts if I read you correctly.

I can now confirm 4.3.27-99676 also has the same problem. Another interesting thing is there will be window frame shadows left on the screen. They are faint and transparent.
One other thing I've noticed is the speed on 4.3.28. My RIP took over an hour to process a 32 square foot file - running windows 7 guess. After downgrading to 4.3.26 the same file processed in about 5-7 minutes.

Thanks,
Bryce

I ended up downgrading to 4.3.26 since the bug was so annoying. The mouse works as expected with 4.3.26.

I tried running 4.3.28 with guest additions downgraded to 4.3.26. No luck, same issues. As I posted on the other thread, disabling mouse integration does solve the problem, although the general mouse behavior on my machine is not as smooth, so I would prefer a different solution.

I just tried 4.3.30 and this problem persists. Back to the old version!

I'm on a Mac, 10.10.4, running Windows 8.1 mostly for Visio. Is this the log that was asked for?

Great news, so far - I decided to kick the tires on 5.0 before going back to 4.3.26 and the mouse issue appears to be cleared up! With Mouse Integration enabled, the mouse is functioning properly, as it did prior to 4.3.28. Curious if the other similar issues folks reported here are resolved as well?

I am encounter mouse integration for Kubuntu 14.04 VM with Virtual Box 5.0. But for my Gnome VM with the same VBox, mouse is smooth. I believe for Gnome, i never had installed the Guest Additions.
