Yeah, and that doesn't work as a bug report, either. Nothing to fix there.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, or different, but I just got the new 12" Retina MacBook and launching anything in VirtualBox causes the machine to freeze for about two seconds, then it performs a hard reboot. I've tried this 6 or 7 times with different virtual machines and I get the same result (with similar logs).

I also tried downloading the test builds to see if that fixed anything, but the Mac OS X link appears to be broken on the test build page.

Here's the log:

try the test build + the extpack. I believe that addresses the Broadwell problem.

I believe this problem has resurfaced in 10.10.3, at least infrequently — instead of a kernel panic at the launch of a VM, I get random ones even when VirtualBox isn't actively open. The kernel panic always references the display driver and I know VirtualBox has a kernel driver present — I haven't changed anything else in my system, so I'm hoping this is a related issue.

I'll try the testbuild linked, but the extpack in that URL says file not found.

I don't know if you are still having an issue but the fix for broadwell cpus was implemented in VB 4.3.26. They took down the VB 4.3.27 test build.
Are you referring to the Intel Iris Graphics 6100 driver? Perhaps there is a problem with it and VB. Although I would think it would always be there and not random.

Yeah the problem is definitely still there. I uninstalled VirtualBox entirely and haven't had a kernel panic since, so there's definitely a conflict with something.

I have a new MacBook with a Broadwell CPU but a different GPU, Intel HD 5300 and no kernel panics. You might want to file a ticket on https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Bugtracker. of course if you uninstalled your guests there will be no logs to help.

Yes, but this thread is about the 13" Broadwell retina MacBook Pros, not the MacBooks with the 5300s.

That's my point, your GPU and VB may not be getting along. :D

And my point is that it's not particularly useful to anyone to enter into a discussion about a particular hardware combination and say that you, with a different hardware combination than the one being discussed, do not have a problem. So, can we keep the topic on topic? Thank you.

Try and think, if one GPU works and one doesn't, it is not stretching the imagination that one possible reason is due to the differences in GPUs.

But have it your way. Don't report it.

I don't believe there's any confusion over there being a GPU issue. The thread is about the particular configuration of the Broadwall combination in the 13" retina MacBook Pros, which is a package consisting of the Broadwell CPU itself and the 6100 GPU. I have no interest in participating in your derail over whether or not the issue is the CPU or the GPU — it's irrelevant, this thread is not about either, it's about a kernel panic occurring with this particular configuration of MacBook Pro released in early 2015 (further, a kernel panic that multiple other users with the same hardware have confirmed in this thread alone). I'm not sure why you persist on disrupting the topic, or presume to tell me what I have and have not done to assist Oracle in diagnosing and fixing the issue, but I strongly request that you move on to other things as you're doing nothing useful here.

I myself don't presume to know it IS a GPU issue. It is a possibility. Obviously I'm not as smart as you. :)
