VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
Sharing the installation experiences and mouse issues encountered during that.
1. Host recent rMBP-13 was upgraded to Yosemite back in Nov 2014. Created a DVD iso from the Yosemite installer (google for instructions).
2. Upgraded to latest VirtualBox with downloaded VirtualBox-4.3.24-98716-OSX.dmg.
3. Created a VM with Maverick 64-bit VM template (only change is using 120GB VDI and attach the DVD iso). Tried some CPU/Memory changes before and found that could cause installer to stall at efi boot.
4. Had to do the modifyvm to change cpuid and setextradata (google for instructions). Otherwise installer again stalls before creating graphics UI.
5. In the graphics UI, mouse cannot navigate! As result installation couldn't continue since the virtual disk cannot be formatted for installer to use.
Downgraded using VirtualBox-4.3.22-98236-OSX.dmg and mouse was usable again. Installation succeed. Will adjust CPU/Memory after further testing.

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
About the issues in #3, it appears that is due to larger memory size I tried. The EFI boot started to experience some problems somewhere after memory size goes above the template recommendation of 2048MB (which is extremely small for 64-bit OSX). The boot would completely fail at above 3488MB.

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
Both are known issues. The mouse movement is a regression in 4.3.24, so stick with 4.3.22 until it gets fixed. The memory limit that can be passed by the EFI loader is older (maybe since the beginning?) and I don't remember if it has been fixed yet. For more info take a look at other users' experiences at OSX on OSX.
Edit: I successfully started a 10.9 client with 6GB of RAM with no problems.

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
Thanks for quick help. I reported the mouse issue since I didn't see in changelog or in OS X board even though it was mentioned fixed in a prior version. Yes. The memory issue was not a problem with 10.9 Maverick so we may have to temporarily downgrade to Maverick.
[Update: With release of newer version of Xcode etc on 3/9 Maverick was out. Has to bite the bullet and focus on Yosemite and future. ]

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
I'm seeing the mouse issue with 4.3.22 and 4.3.24. Pointer is at the top left of the screen and while mouse capture appears to work, the pointer does not move.

@nikwax: Are you absolutely sure that you can see this with 4.3.22 as well? Because, as far as I know, no one has mentioned it before.

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
I downrevved to 4.3.22 and saw the same issue. I've got some time now, I'll try an even older version of VB and report back.
Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
With 4.3.20, I can get it to capture the mouse and move the pointer around, for some reason right click works and left click does not.

OK, first try the testbuild from here: https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... 15-OSX.dmg

Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
no, I'm good, thanks. I got it to work with .22
Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
My mouse pointer was stuck in the upper left corner. Then I tried lowering the memory size at 3072 MB and the mouse got to work again. I'm using test version, 4.3.25-98815, on Yosemite 10.10.3 (14D87h).swrws wrote:About the issues in #3, it appears that is due to larger memory size I tried. Re: VirtualBox 4.3.24-98716-OSX mouse problem
And it had nothing to do with the memory size.lux wrote:My mouse pointer was stuck in the upper left corner. Then I tried lowering the memory size at 3072 MB and the mouse got to work again.
