Extremely long drop down menus.

Post by loukingjr »

I don't remember in which version this started but as an example, when you choose to import an appliance in 4.3.18 you get an extremely long and unnecessary drop down menu. It also defaults to the Documents folder which is never where I download .ova files and there seems to be no way to change it.

The same thing when you are choosing a shared folder.

I don't know if this is a VB 4.3.18 issue with OSX 10.10 or not.

If someone could check who is running VB 4.3.18 on a version of OSX other than 10.10

Menu Bar --> Finder --> Preferences allows you to taylor the list, further refinements by drag-out from Finder display/menu

Thanks ChipMcK but I have no idea what you mean and I've been using Macs for 30+ years. :D

maybe this will help. normally when you have an open dialog box from a Mac application you would see something like this...

You would not get a menu that runs from the top of the screen to the bottom.

the Preferences of Finder dictates the content of dialog box.

If you no like size, then resize - as far as I recall, setting remembered per application

um no, you can set what you want shown in the sidebar. normally even if you have everything shown in the sidebar no Open dialog expands to show everything in the sidebar. you have to scroll to see it as the second pic I posted shows. If you open a new Finder window it doesn't expand to show everything in the sidebar. You could resize it to do that but I wouldn't want to. :)

I may just submit a bug report.

VB is using standard Open Dialog.

The DialogBox window can be resized just like any window.

Well yes and no.

I have been resizing the dialog window to make is smaller any number of times and it wouldn't remember the size which it normally should. I just did it again for the umpteenth time and this time it remembered. :P

It still always defaults to the Documents folder no matter how many times I change it. :D

that is correct but not that folder. for example as before, if I select "Import Appliance" from the VB menus it defaults to the documents folder. which is annoying because if I download an .ova file or an .iso file I send it to the desktop.

I do know Yosemite has a few .plist issues so I will chalk it up to 10.10 for now.

edit: you can change the default location for VMs btw.

hmmm, I just tried something. I selected Import appliance and navigated to the folder it was in, (since VB insists on opening Documents), I imported the .ova. Then I selected import appliance again without shutting VB down and it still defaulted to Documents. Since this doesn't normally occur where the Finder "forgets" the location it just opened , I have to chalk it up to VB 4.3.18.
