vdi expansion

Hi, My vdi is an expandable drive. So why, when copying files, I have a message about not enough space to copy my file... It's like the drive are fix size but.. when I make it I choose the expandable one and, if I read the pup-up info box when on the vdi, it's said "Type de mémorisation : Image disque dur virtuel" so it's virtual disk drive... but... where to look to see if it is a fix or and expandable one.

Do this problem is because I duplicate my basic drive....
