Bridged Networking not working with USB ethernet adaptor

Post by Neonrazor »

Hi,

I have an issue with a windows 2008 vm (although seems to be any vm) on a mac osx host (10.9.2) with virtual box 4.3.10 (latest as of today). The bridge networking is fine if I use a thunderbolt ethernet adaptor, its basically plug in and play. I have to use a USB Ethernet adaptor (generic one off the internet) as I use the thunderbolt ports for an external drive and external cinema display.

Does anyone have any experience of getting virtual box to work with usb host. It shows up in the network settings in Virtual Box and on the VM, I have tried the same settings as the thunderbolt which is auto everthing (ip, dns etc) and I have tried it manually configured but eitherway it just cannot connect.

Any suggestions (if you need more info I can provide that).

Thanks

well, one thing is you can piggyback ThunderBolt devices either using a hub or daisychaining. so you should be able to run all three devices in one port, or two on one port etc.

You do have a Thunderbolt display correct? Or if you don't why are you connecting it to a Thunderbolt port?

Thanks for the reply the thunderbolt hubs are prohibitively expensive and the drive doesn't have a pass through so cant be chained. Apple Cinema display uses a mini display port or a thunderbolt port as they are interchangeable but both of my ports are used up, I only have usb available.

I need to use the USB ethernet adaptor so was hoping someone had some experience of using one and how to get it working or some knowledge of what I need to do to investigate why its not working.

Attached screen shots of the settings, I have not tried NAT recently although I dont think it worked (that could be me not understanding it)
