Hi,
I have been running WinXP inside VirtualBox 1.5.6 on Ubuntu Gutsy for quiete some time now. Yesterday I tried to clone the vdi file to use it with the Mac version of VirtualBox.
But no success so far. WinXP does not boot on the Mac Version. It stop with 'media error' before the XP kernel is loaded.
The vdi file seems ok, it show the correct windows partition which could even be mounted when the system is booted from a linux cd. I can see the usual dirs inside the partition.
I tried to run the 'repair console' from the XP cd and tried:
fixmbr
fixboot
chkdsk
All without any success.
It seems to me as if the mac version of Virtualbox might have a slightly different virtual hardware compared to the linux version which might prevent XP booting.
Thanks for any hints,
Christoph

This seems to be a general issue with the 1.6 codebase.
After upgrading VirtualBox on my Linux host the WinXP VM stopped booting there too.
I have opened a bug report and described a workaround:
