full size of VDI not being realized?

Post by fangorious »

I downloaded VirtualBox today, the about box says 1.5.51. I created a 3.35 GB VDI for Windows XP, and installed the OS, guest additions, and most updates. I say most because IE 7 won't install, presumably due to the disk being nearly full, less than 120 MB free. In the VM, Windows says the disk is at 3.2 GB used. But if I look at the VDI file in Finder on the Mac, it's only 1.85 GB. Virtual Disk Manager agrees with Finder and reports 1.85 GB used out of 3.35 GB. Why are they reporting differently, and how can I access the other 1.5 GB?

Is there still enough free space on the volume where the VDI is located? Or is it a filesystem with 2GB file size limit?

plenty of free space 10+ GB. I went ahead and made a new 5.25 dynamic VDI and got rid of the other one. If any innotek people want I can try and purposely fill it up to see if the same thing happens to try and trouble-shoot.
