NEED UNBUTU CD RUNNING?

HI Guys,
Stumbled upon Virtualbox last night,very interesting.
I would like to run Linux Unbutu on my Macmini (intel)
This i have managed but is it necessary to have the unbutu install disc running to use it?
I was hoping i could use Unbutu direct from a hard drive as the disc keeps powering up evertime i swith to unbutu.
Maybe im missing something here in the settings.

No, you don't need the install disc in to boot, as long as you installed Ubuntu on the hard drive and are not just using the Live CD. The idea is once you install Ubuntu to the hard disk, you unmount the CD, or at least change the boot order so it boots the hard disk first.
