Can't start machine after rebooting Mac OS X

Post by lazlokovac »

Hi,

I'm using the last version of MacBook Pro 13" with Mac OS X as host. I have installed Windows XP SP3 with no serial number needed with VirtualBox. The installation goes well and everything works absolutely fine when I use it. I close VirtualBox, I open it again and then I start the machine again and all is ok.

But when I turn off my laptop, I can't start the machine and the following pop-ups show up:

The first saying:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine windows.

The virtual machine 'windows' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1.
Details
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: Machine
Interface: IMachine {662c175e-a69d-40b8-a77a-1d719d0ab062}

And the second saying:

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully.

After these messages appear, I can't install anything more on VirtualBox, every time I try it these messages appear. So I have to uninstall VirtualBox and install it again and do the same process over and over again.

I've tried installing Windows XP on VirtualBox with both Dynamically expanding storage and Fixed-size storage with the recommended 192 Mb for RAM and 10.00Gb for storage and different versions of Windows, but it's always the same it works perfect, i can restart VirtualBox several times and it's ok, but when I restart Mac OS X it doesn't work anymore and those messages above show up.

What is "kernel module"?

I searched in the User Manual for this "Kernel Module" and they only talk about it when using Linux as host, but not Mac OS X.

Could anyone give me some advice please?

Thanks.

Take a look at this topic Virtual machine won't startup after host reboot:A SOLUTION, especially toward the bottom of the thread where ccmdoc talks about the VBoxDrv.kext. Could you check and see if you're seeing the same thing on your computer?

Thanks for answering. I reinstalled VB, but I haven't find the file "VBoxDrv.kext" in the folder mentioned.

Have you tried the Library/Extensions folder that is not in System?

[hard drive]/Library/Extensions
