Newbie..desperately need help.

Post by vbaniko »

Running Leapord on Mac and tried to install VirtualBox for Guest Windows XP.
Had difficulty trying to understand the manual when installing and I wanted to uninstall Virtual Box so that I could reinstall fresh.
The first problem was following the manual...I opened the .dmg and clicked on the uninstall tab and it brought up a Terminal program that asked if you
wanted to uninstall the program. I typed yes..and then it asked for a password.
Since I did not install a password in the initial installment there was no way I could figure how to get around the password as the program would not uninstall without a password.
I tried on the general post and the moderator suggested I post my problem here.

Can the program be removed by dropping the listed files directly into the trash without some remnants remaining in a registry...if MacOs has a registry like Windows.?
VirtualBox-3...12-OSX.dmg (disk image)
VirtualBox.app (application)
VirtualBox Volume
VirtualBox-Unintall.tool
VirtualBox.mpkg (Installer package).

Would appreciate any help.

The uninstaller is asking for your mac password. Not something related to virtualbox.
This is so it can run at elevated level which is needed to remove system files.

When setting up my Mac i bypassed having a password and just return when asked for password.
This did not work in the Terminal uninstaller. Any suggestions?

Yes, in account settings set a password.
