Upgrading Guest Additions?

Post by dnonnema »

Upgraded to 3.1.2 this morning from 3.0.10. Everything works fine, but the download page says:

Note: After upgrading VirtualBox it is recommended to upgrade the guest additions as well.

Does the upgrade of guest additions happen automatically? The main Virtual Box window on my install shows that VBoxGuestAdditions.iso is still mounted to the CD/DVD drive, just as it was before I upgraded. What more, if anything do I need to do to "upgrade the guest additions as well", as the download page suggests?

Hi Dnonnema,

You'll need to upgrade the Guest Additions yourself -- it doesn't happen automatically. I recommend you uninstall your current Guest Additions (from within your Guests) from build 3.0.10. After the reboot you can then install the VBox 3.1.2 Guest Additions.

Check out Chapter 4 of the User Manual for more details on Guest Additions.
