XP Pro Guest, SP3+
If an USB device is activated during the start up and after doing shutdown of guest, the VM's caption ends up with 'aborted' rather than 'powered off' and I get a 'System Diagnostic Report'. (USB devices such as flash/stick drives and 3 ½ inch floppy drive).
Attaced is crash when floppy (I believe) was activated.
I do have filters for the USB devices - for the flash drives it does not include SerialNumber so that any of the brand (vendor) is attached to the VM. The filters were created over a year ago
My thanks to Perryg for the SoundBlaster16 fix to eliminate that 'aborted' problem.
Update: Yes, the USB devices were safely removed before shutdown.

Re: XP shutdown aborted usb crash
Hi! I wasn't sure if this was related when I first read your post, but now that problem #5042 (http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5042) is fixed, I am now experiencing the same problem as you-- if a USB device is attached, I get Aborted when trying to shut down. I was not sure if you had created a bug tracker ticket for this, so I created #5146 (http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5146). Please check it out, and if your problem is still happening in VirtualBox 3.0.8, then please post your logs to help us track this down. If you do have a ticket open already, have them mark it as a duplicate (the newer ones seem to get fixed more quickly). Also, note that I have been having this problem for shutting down AND for saving the machine state. If your experience has been different, please post that.ChipMcK wrote:XP Pro Guest, SP3+

Re: XP shutdown aborted usb crash
It appears that, based on one day's experience, v3.1.0 has fixed this.
=========================================================
Now up to three days and still appears fixed
