How to start Windows XP in safe mode?
I believe I've found a solution to the problem in my previous thread, but it needs a safe mode restart and neither F8 nor (fn)+F8 will do the job. Is there something I'm missing?

Re: How to start Windows XP in safe mode?
You can run the msconfig utility (Start->Run, type in 'msconfig', OK). When the utility comes up, select 'minimal' from the boot tab. Restart. You'll be in safe mode.
I did this in an attempt to install the guest additions in safe mode, but it didn't work.
I tried uninstalling the previous version guest additions. That worked.
But, after rebooting in safe mode and trying to install the guest additions, nothing happened.
Oh, well.
