I'm getting pretty discouraged with Virtualbox cloning.
I've posted several times recently about problems creating virtualbox clones that work like the originals.
Since I remembered being able to do it in VB 2.2.2, this morning I uninstalled 2.2.4, reinstalled 2.2.2 and tried cloning again.
As before the upgrade, clonehd did NOT give me this dreaded
ERROR: Cannot register the hard disk '/Users/ge/Virtualbox/LibraryLink/HardDisks/ubu_9_04_server_min_base.vdi' with UUID {95641d10-3745-490d-8797-98c13ee55a15} because a hard disk '/Users/ge/Library/VirtualBox/HardDisks/ubu_9_04_server_min_base.vdi' with UUID {95641d10-3745-490d-8797-98c13ee55a15} already exists in the media registry ('/Users/ge/Library/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml')
"Great!", I thought. I'll just use 2.2.2 until the problem is fixed.
So I started Virtualbox and immediately got another dreaded error message (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2h ... directlink) telling me that there was a virtual hard drive that couldn't be accessed.
When I try to add the hard disk by hand, Virtualbox greys out the file name: (see http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/o6 ... directlink).
By selecting "All files" instead of "All hard disk images", I can add it and create a new Virtual Machine.
Trouble is, I don't seem to have made a real clone. As I posted here a couple of days ago, the clone won't allow me to remap the ssh port.
Maybe the clue is that error. Does anyone know what causes a virtual hard drive to be inaccessible?
Thanks again for your help.

Re: What causes a virtual hard drive to be inaccessible?
Here are the possible reasons that a virtual hard disk drive can become inaccessible:
1. The hard disk image is not formatted properly or it is not formatted under a recognisable file type upon mounting the hard disk image.
2. The backup hard disk image becomes unreadable after cloning the hard disk. Apparently, if you used older versions of VirtualBox and if there were bugs involving the cloning process, that might be the case. If you tried to clone a VHD hard disk, under the current version of VirtualBox, that might be the case.
I hope that this helps.
