want Internet on guest but I don't want Internet on host

Post by muyal »

Sorry for my english.
I have need of a small aid.

1. I have like host a osx leopard.
2. I have like guest a Ubuntu 9.

I need internet connection on Guest machine but not on host machine.
I prefer an ethernet connection but it is not necessary (also wireless is ok).
I am not an expert about networks and so please be the more precise as possible.
Tk you. :P

The guest uses the hosts network adapter. It is not possible to have it on the guest only.

I've done this before on VMware and I think its possible to do with VBox as well.
All you have to do is enable bridget network on the guest and point it to your wired interface.
Then, on the host, you have do remove the IP configuration from that same interface (note: you can't disable the interface, you have to remove the IP configuration, otherwise the guest won't see the net).

It may work on a wireless network as well, but you have to make sure the host is connected to the network, but doesn't get/set an IP address for itself.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Try using an USB-WLAN stick that's attached to the VM. That way host network can be switched off and it might even be a little less easy to exploit WLAN driver security glitches.
