OSX 10.5.6 VB 2.20 Ubuntu 8.04
Install VB, install Ubuntu ISO in VB, create shared folder in VB, Ubu can see shared folder after it's mounted using terminal
Ubu DHCP default IP is 10.0.2.15, Ubu can get out to net
host cannot ping Ubu
Oracle SQL Developer on OS X cannot see Oracle 10g XE in Ubu
Tried setting network preferences to static IP address in Ubu, rebooted and preferences went back to DHCP.
Looking through forum seems to be that host talking to guest thru VB is a problem.
This true ?
If there's a definitive method let me know and I'll post it wider.
thanks ...
host cannot connect to guest

Re: host cannot connect to guest
Simplify your life and use bridged network in the VBox gui if you want both the internet and to have connection between guest and host.

Thank you ...
What I did
- right click on guest OS listed in VBox
- click on settings in menu bar
- click on network icon
- change selection to bridged and click on "screwdriver" icon on right
- selected en2 airport (on my system, yours may be different)
from manual: On Macintosh hosts, functionality is limited to using AirPort (the Mac’s wire-
less networking) for bridged networking. Currently, VirtualBox supports only
IPv4 over AirPort. For other protocols such as IPv6 and IPX, you must choose a
wired interface.
- start guest OS
- when up right click on network icon on top of guest OS window and select connection information
- note IP address
- link appropriately on OS X
