Vbox on MacBook unable to detect Internet
Re: Vbox on MacBook unable to detect Internet
we have to know what guest you have installed to begin helping you.
Re: Vbox on MacBook unable to detect Internet
Thanks for the reply Roysan.....I think I mentioned I was a newbie to VB so by "guest" do you mean the program I downloaded? 2.1.4 -42893-osx.dmg? Or my host IP which is Cox Cable via wireless router Airport Extreme.
I know lame but there it is....

Re: Vbox on MacBook unable to detect Internet
The notion of host and guest is the same as real life: you have your home and you allow someone else to come and stay. This means MacOS X is probably your host, and your guest is whatever you are trying to run in the VM, so Windows, Linux, or whatever else that takes your fancy.
In addition to letting us know what your guest operating system is, it is probably a good idea to tell us what the settings you have specified for 'adapter 1' in the network section of the settings for your virtual machine.

VB version: 6.x Primary OS: MacOS X 11.0.1 on Intel Mac

Wow that seems so obvious once you say it. Thanks for the quick reply.
Guess I couldn't see the forest for the trees. I am running Windows XP professional in VB.
Many thanks for the help

Re: Vbox on MacBook unable to detect Internet
The Vbox is using the host computer as a proxy, it won't be talking directly to your network card.
With the virtual machine in the powered off state, click on "Details" and then "Network." Under Adapter 1 turn on "Enable Network Adapter." As I recall, this was disabled by default. I think the default settings are ok. When you boot the VM back up, it should recognize and start using the network without you having to do anything else.
