Inaccessible primary master

Post by sc48473 »

I deleted a snapshot and ended up losing access to my IDE primary master, so I can't start VBox. I'm running WinXP in a VBox on an OS 10.4 iMac. Virtual Median Manager lists the vdi as "Not Attached." Show Differencing Hard Disks reveals four differencing hard discks, but when I select each one and click OK, it primary master is still inaccessible. I've seen buttons to release or remove vid's, but I'm afraid to make things worse if that's even possible. How can I recover from this? Thanks!

May be you can detach it from the old vm and attach it to a new created vm with the same properties like the old one.

Thanks, tkwm! You were right on target. VBox quickly acquired the old "disk" and allowed me to restore my VM. I do appreciate the excellent tip.
