Error WinXP passing from 1.6 to 2.1

Passing from vbox 1.6 to 2.1 I've got this error on winxp virtual machine:

Could not load the settings file '/Users/carloxxxxxfani/Library/VirtualBox/Machines/WinXP/WinXP.xml'.
Element '{http://www.innotek.de/VirtualBox-settings}Port': The attribute 'hostMode' is required but missing.

Remove the virtual-disc from the vm, but don't delete it.
Add a new vm with another name and the same properties like the old one and with your existing virtual-disc.
Delete the old vm.

No way...
I'd like to downgrade to 1.6, but I couldn't (I removed the 2.1 version, but I don't see icons, folders, files of the 1.6 version after the re-installation).
I've got backups of the vdi file of winXP (and the XML file too).
