VBox 2.1.2 performance decrease
Windows XP (32 bit) host; Ubuntu 8.10 (32 bit) guest
Just for the record, the above combination is showing great "sluggishness" under 2.1.2 that I had not seen in earlier releases.
Also, from time to time, VirtualBox.exe seems to take excessive CPU (hogs one core of a 2 core system).

Same problem here. But unlike with the older version (was using 2.0.6) where turning off VT-x/AMD-V showed better results, with this one I noticed a *huge* performance boost by turning on AMD-V.
I'm using VB on a Turion 64 X2 notebook, running Vista x64 on host and XP 32 guest.
Interesting to note that my processor doesn't have support for nested paging which *should* be an explanation for the performance improvement. So, no conclusion, only that the VM is running faster now.
I haven't made any benchmark with 2.0.6 so it will be useless to do any one now, but I can say that I don't feel that sluggish behaviour anymore, and using the VM in 2.1.2 is just like it was before.

Sorry.... I was searching the forum when I found this topic, and I was navigating through the Windows Host forum just a moment before. I think that's why I made this mistake... I'll pay more attention next time.rm53 wrote:@carlill, @erighi:
wrong forum.
this is the VB on Mac OS X host forum, not Windows, sorry.
We do not have a VirtualBox.exe...
slow performance
do the developers read these forums? it would be reassuring to know that this issue is at least being looked at.

Another confirmation. However, I'm seeing almost a 3X speed difference.
Launch Word 2007: 6 seconds on v2.0.6 vs 17 seconds on v2.1.2
Reverted back to v2.0.6 (thank goodness the app does a backup of its ".xml" files).
Glad to have this forum available!

New version 2.1.4
New version 2.1.4
Had anyone tryed the new version 2.1.4?
I saw the changelog and I looks like they solved performance the problem:
http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3172
I will give it a try.

Re: VBox 2.1.2 performance decrease
Just a curiosity:
Can anybody from VB team tell us what was causing that performance decrease or, at least, where the problem was (guestadditions, video driver, main program...)?
I know it none of my business, but I'm just curious.
