Shared Folder in Windows 7

Hi

This is my first install of an OS in Virtual Box. I installed the Windows 7 7000 beta, and guest additions (using compatibility mode) on my iMac, and it's working great. One thing...

I am having trouble accessing the Shared Folder which I have set up. I have read the FAQ and searched the forum, but when I try to map a drive by following the methods outlined, the host machine doesn't appear in the list of network places.

Apologies if I am missing something.

Gordon

Hi Gordon,
I haven't very much success with the shared folder as well, mainly using vista on mac host. I usually turn on file sharing, and use:
Network Adapter 1
Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (host interface, en1: AirPort)
This typically at least allows me to access the public folder when windows 7 is running. Please update if you figure that out though!

I did have one additional question, how did you install guest additions (using compatibility mode)? I have been trying to do this myself, and can't figure it out,
Thanks!
David

Where is the folder

I am having the same issue. I am running OSX 10.5.6 with the public folder shared with full control for all.
Installed Windows 7, I ran guest additions, then connected the folder but it won't show up in Windows 7

For javapop, here is the link to the site that showed where to run in compatibility for Windows 7

Thanks

Also been banging my head up against the wall with shared folders. Installed guest additions as admin, in Vista compatibility mode, and set up the shared folders in VirtualBox but can't see them on the Windows guest. Re-installed guest additions, restarted, etc., no luck.

Sorry - been away for a few days. If you are still struggling, this is where I found the info:

I read somewhere (Lifehacker I think) that Shared Folders don't work in Virtual Box...

In the current release Shared Folders don't work using Windows 7. But this seems to be fixed in the SVN-Version as you can see here:
http://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/15967

So probably this change will be included in the next release.

With the most recent upgrade shared folders work I got mine by doing what this guy says near the the bottom of the comments

I am assuming that you have set up a Shared Folder in the VBox GUI. Once you are back in Win 7 you can map a network drive to that share, so for a folder shared as "myshare" you would map to

\\vboxsvr\myshare

yeah, that worked for me, thanks!

(PS: I'm using Linux, not Mac OS)

yes, the above info works...
\\boxsvr\<share-folder> works just fine.

you can also map the share to a network drive by going to Start,Computer then press the "map network drive" button.
