change the screen resolution on ubuntu
change the screen resolution on ubuntu
how do you make the resolution bigger
iMac/Ubuntu8.11/Full Resolution
I used the instructions at
http://www.aviransplace.com/2008/07/01/ ... irtualbox/
but changed the line sudo /media/cdrom/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
to
sudo /media/cdrom/VBoxLinuxAdditions-x386.run
After this, I just needed to reboot Ubuntu, and I got full screen resolution using a 20" iMac. The performance got much better.

I did put myself into trouble.
Forgot the first command VBoxLinuxAdditions.run and now X doesn't start.
How can I edit xorg.conf from the command line, as gedit needs X to run?
I see I am not in the Windows host forum, but I suppose the instructions are the same?
EDIT
I managed to get the initil xorg.conf back.
So did Devices Install guest additions
Type the command as the link. Got command not found
Tried the other command referenced xxxx-386.run Did get command not found again.
Then did a ls -l of the /media/cdrom.
There is nothing on it.
Did I miss something else?
EDIT AGAIN
Found that another iso image was mounted, so the Virtual box addons weren't seen. Corrected and could install the addons.
But the pain wasn't over yet. I had to type sudo /media/cdrom0/VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run not xxxxxx-x386.run
Now I am in 1024x768
