CPU usage 100%+ since upgrade to 2.0.6

Post by nuke »

Has anyone noticed that the CPU usage has gone crazy since updating?

I did the update on Monday. Started v2.0.6 and my MBP CPU usage was up near 120% until I shutdown Virtual Box guest (Linux 2.6 - CAELinux2008.1).

So I reinstalled v2.0.4 over v2.0.6. It looks like this didn't do the trick since now v.2.0.4 is also racing.

Has anyone noticed this behaviour?

My system MBP C2D 2.33Ghz, 2 GB Ram, OSX 10.4.11.

I will now run the uninstall script and reinstall. I hope this gets me back to normal.

Yes. My virtualbox xp is now unusable after the upgrade. I reverted to an earlier snapshot thinking I messed up my install somehow. When booting xp, it takes 100% of the processor and it eventually aborts.

Sorry, I didn't notice you're running Mac. Anyway. I resolved this problem on my machine, so maybe it will work on your Mac, and it relates to this post,

After a good install, I subsequently increased the disk size setting beyond around 750 megs, to beyond 1 gig, forgetting about this earlier problem. I sized it back down and the processor problem disappeared, XP boots fine now. So, it wasn't the upgrade but this pre-existing problem.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I uninstalled everything and reinstalled 2.0.4 and everything was OK again.

I have noticed that the racing condition occurs only for certain disk images. In particular it is PCLinuxOS which I have in Linux/Linux 2.6 set-up.

The problem still occurs in v2.1.2 which i have tried today.

A few questions
- have you tried 2.1.4?
- did you update the guest additions?
- what IDE Controller type are you (Settings -> General -> Advanced)
