Portal - the PC Game

Everything with virtualbox has been simply impressive until I try to run the Portal game. Steam installs fine, Portal installs fine, and launches up to the point of the Source Engine screen and then it just quits running and drops me back to the guest desktop.

I'm running virtualbox 2.0.4 on host Mac 10.5.5, MacBook Pro 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM with virtualbox guest set to 1GB RAM and video ram set to maximum in virtualbox's settings, the guest is Win XP SP3.

Even with the unexpected quit, everything remains fine w/XP, but Portal will never go past the Source Engine splash screen without quitting.

Anyone have thoughts on what might be going on?

There's no DirectX/OpenGl graphics acceleration support in VirtualBox http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... sc&start=0
