Sharing Issues

Post by javapop »

I am having some difficulty getting a shared folder to work properly,
There were a couple posts with some good ideas, like:

Code: Select all

net use x: \\vboxsvr\sharename
Unfortunately, that didn't work. I have had success on an earlier snapshot; which I accidentally mismanaged... and had to remove. As far as I can remember, I have gone though the same steps on this VM. I have done the guest installations several times.

This is my setup on a mac host, Vista client:

Host:
MacBook Pro 2.33 / 3 GB RAM
OS X 10.5.5

Guest:
VirtualBox 2.0.4

General:
Name: Vista
OS Type: Windows Vista
Base Memory: 512 MB
Video Memory: 8 MB
Boot Order: Hard Disk, CD/DVD-ROM, Network
ACPI: Enabled
IO APIC: Disabled
VT-x/AMD-V: Disabled
PAE/NX: Disabled

Hard Disks
IDE Primary Master: vista.vdi [Differencing, 20.00 GB]

CD/DVD-ROM
Image: VBoxGuestAdditions.iso

Floppy: Not mounted

Audio
Host Driver: CoreAudio
Controller: ICH AC97

Network
Adapter 1: PCnet-FAST III (NAT)

Serial Ports
Port 1: COM1, Disconnected
Port 2: COM2, Disconnected

USB
Device Filters: 0 (0 active)

Shared Folders
Shared Folders: 2

Remote Display: Disabled

I have been going all through the user manual... trying some of the ideas mentioned with regards to Vista Clients, so far, nothings showing up on the host machine. Any ideas or clues?

Hmm, I have the same problem on a Linux host, is there a bug in 2.0.4!?

Share Folder on Mac host and Vista Business Edition Guest

Post by aovlia »

Well, this is the way I did it. Fist I change my network setting form NAT to Host Interface.
then When I opened vista, in network neighborhood I find my MAC side all shared folders. Then I used MAP Network Drives to locate that folder and set it as a new drive such as "Z" and voila!

What adapter type are you using?

EDIT:
I just got this to work using the PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973) adapter w/ Host interface; using Airport rather than Ethernet; (doesn't work with Ethernet)

...and it showed our server, and one of my kids computers both running OS 10.4!

It doesn't seem to recognize any units running 10.5...

Any ideas on what to do now?
Thanks!
