Error making Host-only adapter

Post by gnb »

I could not make an HOST-Only Adapter through the Host Network Manager.

VBoxNetAdpCtl: Error while adding new interface: failed to open /dev/vboxnetctl: No such file or directory.

Resultcode: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: HostNetworkInterfaceWrap
Interface: IHostNetworkInterface {455f8c45-44a0-a470-ba20-27890b96dba9}

Anyone? why can't i make an Host only adapter?

macOS Big Sur
version 11.6.5
Virtual Box
Versie 6.1.34 r150636 (Qt5.6.3)

I'm no Mac guru, but maybe the Virtualbox install was instructed to turn off Host-Only installation. This is an option on Windows hosts, might be an option on Mac, too. Mac also has a lllloooottttt of concern over permissions, so maybe there was a permission that wasn't given?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Virtualbox with the Mac OS page that controls permissions open.
