System Extensions

Post by RCG »

macOS 12.3 identifies Virtual Box as using a legacy system extension.

Is there a feature request web page or anything else where I can track the progress for the legacy system extension being replaced by a new style system extension?

Thanks.

Are you sure you don't have an M1 Mac? VirtualBox requires an x86 CPU.

I have an Intel Mac Mini 2014.

Virtual Box should work currently, but it is identified as using legacy system extensions that will not be supported in the future.

I just want to be able to track that development.

I'll let a Mac user comment. I'm afraid that's not me.

No. But the coming VirtualBox 7.0 will probably use System Extensions instead of Kernel Extensions not use Kernel Extensions any more on hosts with newer macOS versions. No ETA, no guarantee. ;)

Edit:
My previous assumption wasn't entirely correct, see inline changes above.
