VM won't start after VERR_PDM_DRIVER_NOT_FOUND

Post by Jaymarkt »

Hey everybody,
I have been browsing the forum for days now and could not find any solution.

Host:
MacbookAir (2015) Intel i5
macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

error started with
Virtualbox 6.0.24

Guest:
Win10

One day it works fine and all of a sudden my guest system is unable to connect to the internet. (syas no cable
connected and did not 'find' my Wifi adapter. While my host is online of course!
After a restart with no known updates or changes from my side the following error occurred on VM start:

Failed to start the network LUN
(VERR_PDM_DRIVER_NOT_FOUND).

error code: NS:ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
component: consoleWrap
interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

Next I tried to upgrade to 6.1.32.
With that I could not start the guest and remembered why I stayed on 6.0.24.
So I reinstalled that. But now I cannot start the VM on either version.

Sorry, I have no log file available. I will try to post one at or after the weekend, when back home.

Off topic: Is it possible to import the 'raw' VM data file on a different MAC? Silly me has no backup exported.

Thanks for any help here.

Yes it is possible. But you should copy the whole folder to the other Mac, not just the disk.

On the new Mac you can add the VM to VirtualBox Manager with the "Machine/Add ..." menu command.

After you have added it, open the VM settings in VirtualBox Manager and modify the NIC MAC address and possibly the interface assignment - you don't want duplicate MAC addresses on your LAN. You may also need to adjust Memory and CPU allocations for the VM, depending on the new hardware.

Well that took me a long time!!
Sorry, here is the log file.
In the meantime I tried 6.1.32, 6.0.24 and 6.0.22.
6.1 will not work at all (under MacOS Sierra).
6.0.xx at least tries to start the machine. but produces the mention error message...

I am stuck here.

Sorry

Your log shows that you do not have enough free memory on your host to allocate the 2GB you have configured for the VM. I suggest you shut down all the other software you are running (e.g. web browser, mail etc.) before running the VM.

Also, you have 4 CPU's available on your host but only 1 configured for the VM. Add another CPU to your VM settings. That should make your guest happier.
