Re: How to speed up loading time?
What exactly is slow? The manager? A particular VM?
And what is "the current version"?
I can tell you that a common problem on MacOS hosts comes when you enable VMs with very high display sizes (e.g. filling the host Retina display). Such display sizes in practice require hardware graphics acceleration, and I'm not at all sure how well that works on MacOS hosts these days, now that Apple is deprecating the cross platform OpenGL API in favor of their closed "Metal" API. If your system can't handle large display sizes then you need to reduce the resolution, i.e. halve the display size and use 200% scaling to compensate.

It's been awhile since I've logged into VB so I'm refreshing myself. I believe I had a resolution issue previously. Thanks!

Sorry for double posting. I'm trying to get some support ASAP because
I have something work related I'm trying to complete.
I'm running the most current version of VB.
I'm running the current version on Catalina 10.15.7.
Here are the specs on my Mac:
Processor: 2.5 GHz Dual -Core Intel 5
Memory: 10GB
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
It is slow with loading anything. Snail slow. Anything I click on it will take forever to open.
I tried modifying the display settings as you suggested but that didn't make a difference.
Please advise. Thanks.

Re: How to speed up loading time?
Please provide a (zipped) VBox.log file of a slow VM run.
For a test, try if VirtualBox 6.1.30 exhibits the same problem.

I can't even run it now. It can't be opened for whatever reason.fth0 wrote:Please provide a (zipped) VBox.log file of a slow VM run.

Re: How to speed up loading time?
If you are referring to your post at viewtopic.php?f=8&t=105125 as the cause of your crash, then as I pointed out there, you should not rename the VirtualBox application.NorbyD wrote: I can't even run it now. It can't be opened for whatever reason.
The crash log you posted shows that loading the required dynamic libraries is dependent on the application being installed at /Applications/VirtualBox.app
You could argue that this is a bug but that won't actually solve the issue you have.
In summary: Do NOT rename /Applications/VirtualBox.app - to do so leads to a lot of trouble, as you have found.
Re: How to speed up loading time?
Wow, I didn't know renaming would cause so much trouble. So, if I rename, that will resolve it? ( at least most of it?) Thanks.granada29 wrote:If you are referring to your post at viewtopic.php?f=8&t=105125 as the cause of your crash, then as I pointed out there, you should not rename the VirtualBox application.NorbyD wrote: I can't even run it now. Re: How to speed up loading time?
Any suggestions for resolving this? I'm still struggling with this despite changing the file name to it's original ( VirtualBox?...btw this is correct?).
Thanks again!

Re: How to speed up loading time?
Take a look at the recommendations I made in: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=104878&p=511439#p511415
The primary cause of a slow VM is the VM screen size. I never use larger than 1920x1080 on my 2017 iMac. Anything larger is a road to hurtfulness. Scaling of 200% is worthwhile on a retina display.
There are many other issues that can cause a guest to perform badly. It really helps narrow it down if you attach a compressed VBox.log of a session that exhibits the behaviour.
To do this:
1. Start and Stop your VM. Start your VM from Powered Off and not as a Saved session. Then shutdown your guest OS.
2. In VirtualBox Manager, right click your VM and choose 'Show In Finder'. The VM should be Stopped (see 1 above).
3. Open the folder 'Logs' in the window that just opened.
4. Right click VBox.log and choose the Compress "VBox.log" option
5. Attach VBox.log.zip to a new post in this forum.
6. DO NOT Copy/Paste long screeds of log text into a post - it's hard to read and not very useful.
