How to enable host only networks other than 192.168.56.0/21 on Mac?

Post by virtualvertigo »

Recently VirtualBox has changed to only allow host only networks in the address range of 192.168.56.0/21 by default. There are instructions on how to enable other subnets on Linux hosts by adding entries to the /etc/vbox/networks.conf file, but no details on how to do this on Mac OS.

How can additional host only networks (other than 192.168.56.0/21) be added to VirtualBox on MacOS?

According to https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06. ... k_hostonly:
On Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris ... If other ranges are desired, they can be enabled by creating etc/vbox/networks.conf
Looks like the instructions cover Mac OSX in the list of families this change applies to. You have to use a folder called 'etc' in the OS root, or create it, then a folder 'vbox', then the file 'networks.conf', then the contents of the file.

Does this not work on your Mac?
