Big Sur 11.5.2. issues.Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

Post by Jim Travelstead »

Updated to Big Sur 11.5.2. on iMac
tried to open my Windows 10 64-bit virtual machine and got this error

The virtual machine 'Windows 10 64-bit' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).

Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
MachineWrap
Interface:
IMachine {85632c68-b5bb-4316-a900-5eb28d3413df}

Then got a bx open with this:
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully.

where: suplibOsInit what: 3 VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED (-1908) - The support driver is not installed. On linux, open returned ENOENT.

When you installed the update did you have the System Preferences > Security & Privacy Apps window open. It should flash up a prompt for permission to allow installation of the Oracle update? After permission is given and the installation completes you should then get a prompt to reboot.

If that doesn't happen then something is screwed up in MacOS :!:

I had the same problem, macOS updated to 11.5.2, no VM would start up.
Just running the VirtualBox-6.1.26-145957-OSX.dmg installer again did not help.
But running the previous installer VirtualBox-6.1.22-144080-OSX.dmg made macOS trigger the check again, then I ran the latest VirtualBox-6.1.26-145957-OSX.dmg installer, which triggered the macOS check once more, and now it works again.
