Hello,
My host is iMac version 10.15.7 (19H1323)
I created a Windows 10 machine for the third time and everytime the same issue: It starts ok, I leave the PC for a while and come back to use the VM but I find it hung. Like I can't do anything on it, opening or closing a window or even restart it. so I force shut it down.
But now VB itself is not starting and giving this error:
"Failed to acquire the VirtualBox COM object.
The application will now terminate.
Document is empty.
Location: '/Users/macintoshhd/Library/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml', line 1 (0), column 1.
/Users/vbox/tinderbox/6.1-mac-rel/src/VBox/Main/src-server/VirtualBoxImpl.cpp[740] (nsresult VirtualBox::init()).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: VirtualBoxWrap

Thanks,

Re: Windows 10 VM hangs after a while
IME this is usually some problem with power saving settings in the VM. Best to disable them entirely, since virtual power doesn't need saving (i.e. let the host OS worry about that).

Re: Windows 10 VM hangs after a while
RE the error message, do this:
Reboot the host so no Virtualbox processes are running.
Go to /Users/macintoshhd/Library/VirtualBox
Rename "Virtualbox.xml" to "Virtualbox.xml-bad"
Rename "Virtualbox.xml-prev" to "Virtualbox.xml"
Try Virtualbox again.
Then fix Mpack's suggestion inside the VM.

Re: Windows 10 VM hangs after a while
Thanks guys!
I did what scottgus1 said and did the same to the VM file itself because it didn't start after doing the fix.
Then I changed the power saving setting to Never like mpack suggested and now it's working fine.
