CentOS guest on macOS Big Sur - performance drop

Post by cmroxy »

Hello,

I am running into weird performance issues with a CentOS 7 guest running on macOS Big Sur with Virtualbox Version 6.1.22 r144080 (Qt5.6.3)
From the macOS host, I am running Postman API collections against the CentOS guest (so not logging in with a graphical interface on the guest)

The CentOS guest encounters drops in response time from time to time. The strange thing is that I can recover the performance back by putting my host (Mac book) in sleep mode for a couple of seconds and waking it up immediately.
But after a while (20-30 seconds), the performance (api response time) drops again.

I have played with many different settings on the guest but without success (number of CPU, memory, display type, 3D acceleration, SSD drive, ....)
Any help much appreciated,

Thank you,

Host configuration :
Model:MacBook Pro 16,1
CPU Intel Core i9 8 core 2,3 GHz
Mem : 16 Gb

Guest configuration :
CentOS 7
CPU : 1 CPU
Display : VMSVGA
Memory : 4 Gb
